Always something there to remind me

With our little Vanessa due in May, I got my pudgy butt in gear this week and began making her baby blankets. Both are still a work in progress, but allow me to share at least one with you for now. :)

Review: The Masquerade

The Masquerade The Masquerade by Brenda Joyce
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I went back and reread, as I found once I closed the cover to this book, I simply couldn't let Elizabeth and Tyrell go.

One thing to mention, and the ultimate readon for my less than perfect score, was that there seemed to be too many questions and statements that the author seemed disinclined to explain.

Review: License to Date

License to Date License to Date by Susan Hatler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I read this book in an hour, maybe 2. It was fast paced and cute, but it read more like a woman's blog post or diary than a book.

Review: The Veiled Heart

The Veiled Heart The Veiled Heart by Elsa Holland
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

What the author was thinking when she wrote this book is beyond me. There are so many ways that this story could have gone, but it took the one route that proves that some people just need to stop writing.

We have a woman who was raped, beaten, sodomized, and every other vile thing you can imagine by her late husband (so the author says, but she could have gone into more detail) and yet her character doesn't read like an abused woman. A scared woman, yes.... but not the sort of woman who went through the amount of torture that she did. Her character and story line held so much potential, but the author dropped the ball in order to get as much sex into the book as she could.

All the other characters were simply secondary. Even Max, ANOTHER MAIN CHARACTER didn't reach me as anything but secondary. I can break it down for you easily:

Max = The charming hero who helps our heroine see the true nature of things
Maurice and Cynthia = The brother and sister in law we have to hate
Aunt D = The clueless older woman who is more interested in society than her niece
Freddy = The Villain

Cliche, cliche, cliche. The more I read, the more I skimmed, and the more I just wanted to hear "Lily's" back story from Freddy.

Review: My Tempting Highlander

My Tempting Highlander My Tempting Highlander by Maeve Greyson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Thanks to Netgalley.com for providing a free ARC for me to review.

I was excited to get my hands on the 3rd installment in Maeve Greyson's Highland Hearts series, but to be honest, I was a wee bit disappointed. I found myself agreeing with the evil witch's opinion of Ronan by the end, even if I understood his reasoning. Mairi was upfont with him from the beginning, but nooooooo, Ronan just couldn't do it. I know I should give him a break. I mean, the man has been cursed for 3 centuries.... since birth. Ah well, my opinion stands.

The chemistry between the two had this book reading more like a drama than a historical romance/fantasy.

Review: The Shattered Court

The Shattered Court The Shattered Court by M.J. Scott
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

No. Way. You must be joking!

Sophie and Cameron's characters are the ONLY reason I finished this book. The author did nothing but tell me everything, there was nowhere near enough dialogue, the author seems to have a general understanding of regency style and custom (although not nearly enough to write the story that she did) and I had to search to see just how much of the story was fantasy and how much was truth.

Now, get ready to be blown away.... I will be reading the following books in this series. I know, I know. Shocking, right? Although this book is beyond tedious, I really am interested in finding out what happens to Sophie and Cameron.

Review: The Protector

The Protector The Protector by Allison Butler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Thank you to Netgalley.com for providing a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a well written, semi-sappy novel about two people who shouldn't be together but ultimately can't fight their attraction for one another. Basically any cheesy romance movie from the 80's and 90's. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to descriptive, not enough dialogue, and I cannot begin to tell you how many times the author used the same sentences. REPEATEDLY. The only reason this book didn't end up on my DNF shelf is that I made a promise to make a serious effort to finish every book I read this year.

Missing my everyday shenanigans....

Getting used to a new baby is harder than I thought it would be. Things I never had to even think about with my oldest are now running loose in my life to the point where I dream about them, haha. My sweet little bundle of joy is now 12 months old, and we are expecting another one soon. My 6 year old loves the fact that we keep having babies, me... well.... let's just say I'd be happy if we could just stop. For now.
